Most of us dont have to think
twice about this question
WE KNOW !
Our whole life and thinking
was centred around our addiction
in one form or another
always scheming and plotting
to find ways to feed our
addictions.
We lived to use and used to live .
Very simply,
an addict is a man or woman whose
life is controlled
by a substance or action
We are people in the grip of
a continuing and progressive
illness whose ends
are always the same:
jails , institutions
illness and death.
Only you can decide for yourself
if you have an addiction
and wether
you are an addict.
No one can decide for you
The following questionnaire
may help you to make this
desision
answer theese questions
HONESTLY to yourself
IF you answer YES
to any of theese questions you
could be
an addict and have a problem.
Have Hope
There Is A Solution
Answer YES or NO to the following questions.
Substitute "drinking" for your addiction
1 - Have you ever decided to stop using/drinking for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days?
Yes No
2 - Do you wish people would mind their own business about your using/drinking-- stop telling you what to do?
Yes No
3 - Have you ever switched from one kind of drug/drink to another in the hope that this would keep you from getting so high/drunk?
Yes No
4 - Do you envy people who can use/drink without getting into trouble?
Yes No
5 - Have you had problems connected with using/drinking during the past year?
Yes No
6 - Has your using/drinking caused trouble at home?
Yes No
7 - Do you ever try to get "extra" drinks/drugs at a party because you do not get enough?
Yes No
8 - Do you tell yourself you can stop using/drinking any time you want to, even though you keep getting drunk/high when you don't mean to?
Yes No
9 - Have you missed days of work or school because of using/drinking?
Yes No
10 - Have you experienced "blackouts"?
Yes No
11 - Have you ever felt that your life would be better if you did not use/drink?
Yes No
What's your score?
Did you answer YES to more than
a couple of questions?
If so, you are probably
an addict. But again
only YOU can decide whether you
are an addict
no one else can make that desision
for you
If the answer is YES
We are here to help
You Recover
no that you need
Never be alone with the disease again

Today's Thought THURSDAY, JULY 20, 2006
You are reading from the book Twenty-Four Hours a Day.
A.A. Thought for the Day
We must be loyal to the group and to each member of it. We must never accuse
members behind their backs or even to their faces. It's up to them to tell
us themselves if anything is wrong. More than that, we must try not to think
bad things about any members, because if we do, we're consciously or
unconsciously hurting that person. We must be loyal to each other if A.A. is
going to be successful. While we're in this lifeboat, trying to save each
other and ourselves from alcoholism, we must be truly and sincerely helpful
to each other. Am I a loyal member of my group?
Meditation for the Day
Carry out God's guidance as best you can. Leave the results to Him. Do this
obediently and faithfully with no question that if the working out of the
guidance is left in God's hands, the results will be all right. Believe that
the guidance God gives you has already been worked out by God to produce the
required results according to your case and in your circumstances. So follow
God's guidance according to your conscience. God has knowledge of your
individual life and character, your capabilities and your weaknesses.
Prayer for the Day
I pray that I may live according to the dictates of my conscience. I pray
that I may leave the results to God.
